RAAAWWWH!

It’s been 2 years since we have seen anything new from director Peter Jackson.
His Lord of the Rings trilogy is a prime example of how to bring a
fantasy/fairly tale to life on the big screen as a trilogy, despite many fans
and critics point of view of it's translation from book to movie. And although it’s taken him some time to get
this next
project done, King Kong looks to be a surefire hit. But wait a second; King
Kong has been done many times already, with many sequels. Does the
audience want yet another version of Kong? Jackson has let it known that
he is a big fan of the original 1933 Kong movie and this was a big dream opportunity
he couldn’t miss. Although Kong is far from perfect, it is an excellent movie
with stellar directing and great special effects. It's again a good example of
how movies should be made: dynamic and epic with a good story, cast and special
effects that help you believe what your seeing on screen is real. It's the definitive version of
Kong and should not be missed by any film fan!

The good: One of the best things about the movie is
Kong himself. Never before have I seen the realism and emotional emulation of
Kong as good as this! Although there are times when you can tell Kong is CGI,
it’s not nearly as easy to catch as I say it is. I think Pet owners can relate
to Kong as someone who not just a dumb beast, but an intelligent and playful
character, probably more than we will ever know or understand. There are also
some spectacular action and battle sequences here. Even the most jaded movie fan
will have to agree there are some very bright moments with the action; I’m not
so big on Kong in general but even I got dragged into the excitement a little. Kong also has a very strong cast. I didn’t think it would pan out this
way because the trailers showed otherwise. But after watching the movie,
Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black all helped the movie progress smoothly.
The Bad: Simply put, the movie is too long! While I did enjoy the extended
versions of Lord of the Rings on DVD, I felt this version of Kong (which
felt like an extended one) was
slow at times and definitely could have been trimmed about an hour or so. That
said, I don’t think it detracted from the film too much, although I think some
will feel the movie should have ended allot sooner that it did. And while the
special effects were stellar, to say the least, some of the blue screen special
effects with the actors were awful. Adrien Brody running through the multitude
of dinosaurs following him looked as fake as any other sub-par special effect in
another movie. But again, this is a minor quibble.

Execution – 4: The plot and story is a little sloppy but progresses
nicely because of Jackson's direction skills. Jackson puts his stamp on
this movie making it epic tale on screen.
-
The Stars – 4: Naomi Watts is excellent in this movie as the damsel
in distress. She played this part perfectly. Adrien Brody and Jack Black
are also very good.
Kong, even if he's all CGI, is excellent.
-
The cast – 4: Chemistry among the cast is very good although I'd
like to attribute most of that to Jackson's directorial skills.
-
Special effects - 4: Kong and his world emulation is excellent. CGI
has come along way indeed and it's finally starting to show good results
here. Some blue screen action work looks bad, but not all of it.
-
Tilt – 4: Jackson reaffirms his position as a elite director. I'm
no big fan of Kong, but I acknowledge this is the way movies should
always be done.
Unrivaled rating: 4
Overall: You have to admit, Jackson has shown he is an elite director
capable of creating epic movies. Those who are not Kong fans might think
skipping this movie would be fine, dismissing it as just another bland remake. But I digress,
it's certainly one movie you should see on the big screen despite it’s long run time and slow pacing.
And if anyone decides to remake Kong again in 20 years, they should have their
head examined cause it doesn't get any better than this. Now, I'm hoping Jackson
will do something Sci-Fi for a change. Recommended.
