Chapter 6 - The
First Crew Member
Luffy is thrilled that Zoro decides to join him and Zoro tells him to hurry up
with the ropes. The Marines are shocked that the bullets bounced off of Luffy.
Morgan comments that he must have eaten one of the Devil Fruit. The Marines opt
to use swords instead of guns and charge at Luffy and Zoro. Coby wakes up (he
apparently fainted) and Luffy manages to untie one of Zoro's arms. Zoro screams
at Luffy to give him his swords. The Marine's reach Zoro, but he blocks all of
their swords with his 3 swords (two in his hands, one in his mouth). Coby and
Morgan are shocked, Luffy is amazed, and the Marines are scared to death.
Zoro declares to Luffy that it doesn't matter anymore whether he is a good guy
or an outlaw, he will fulfill his goal of becoming the world's Greatest
Swordsman and that if Luffy ever got in the way of his dream, he would kill him.
Luffy says that if he's going to be the Pirate King's crewmate, not being able
to accomplish such a simple task would be embarrassing.
The Marines charge at Zoro and Luffy again, and Luffy does a "Gomu Gomu Leg
Sweeper", in which he extends his leg and kicks them all. Zoro amazed asks Luffy
"What are you?” to which Luffy answers, "I am a Rubber Man." The Marines admit
that they cannot defeat these two. Morgan orders the Marines who said this to
kill themselves, and the ones who did shoot their own heads off. Luffy then
tries to strike Morgan, which he blocks. Morgan declares that Luffy has no right
to oppose him and exclaims, "My name is Marine Lieutenant 'Axe-Hand' Morgan!!"
Luffy replies, "My name is Luffy. Nice to meet you." Morgan then swipes at
Luffy, Luffy jumps, and Morgan cuts a fence in half (the long way). Luffy then
jumps and drop kicks Morgan in the face. Morgan then curses at Luffy and tries
to chop him. Luffy dodges, does a flip and kicks Morgan in the side of the head.
Coby and the Marines are stunned. Coby remarks that Morgan isn't a great Marine
and pulls back his fist to strike him. Helmeppo protests, but Luffy hits him
anyway. Helmeppo has a gun to Coby's head and tells Luffy to stop if he wants
Coby to live. Coby tells Luffy that he's not afraid of death. Luffy then remarks
that he knows this and prepares to do a Gomu Gomu Pistol at Helmeppo. But all
of a sudden Morgan comes up behind Luffy, about to strike him.
Luffy knocks Helmeppo and Morgan is ready to kill Luffy. All of a sudden, Morgan
falls, and behind him stands Zoro with his 3 swords drawn. "Leave it to me,
Captain," says Zoro…

Chapter 7 - Friends
Helmeppo and Captain Morgan lay on the floor, with Luffy and Zoro standing over
them. Zoro tells the remaining Marines to come if they want to arrest them. The
Marines then rejoice because they are finally free of Morgan's reign. Zoro then
collapses, apparently from exhaustion and hunger.
The scene changes to the little girl's house, where her mother has cooked Luffy,
Zoro, and Coby a huge meal. Zoro asks where Luffy is headed next, and he
comments that he's going to the Grand Line. Coby freaks out, and Zoro says that
since they are going for the One Piece, it wouldn't hurt to go there. Coby
freaks, and Zoro comments that he's not going with them so worrying is
pointless. Coby says that he was worried for them, and Luffy comments that they
will always be friends. Coby says that he's never had friends because he was
always picked on and no one ever stood up for him, but Luffy did and helped him
realize his dream. Zoro tells Coby to look out for himself, and not to tell the
Marines that he worked on a pirate ship, because Coby was basically a small time
pirate.
All of a sudden, Marines come to the door. They thank Zoro and Luffy for saving
the village, but they also say that since they are pirates, they can't be
allowed to stay. The villagers protest, but Luffy and Zoro leave, and the
Marines ask Coby if he is with them as well. Coby replies that he isn't Luffy
then starts telling the Marines about how Coby was a member of Albida's pirate
crew, and Coby punches him. Luffy then proceeds to beating the crap out of Coby.
The Marines are convinced that they aren't friends (Luffy's plan all along), and
tell Luffy and Zoro to leave. Coby realizes this and almost tears up. He then
asks the Marine captain if he can join them, and the captain says that although
he was a pirate, he will let him join the Marines.
Luffy and Zoro talk about what just happened, and Coby comes to thank Luffy, and
he salutes him. Then, surprisingly, the Marines come up and salute Luffy as
well. The Marines punish themselves for saluting pirates by fasting for a week.
Zoro and Luffy sail off to their next adventure...

Chapter 8 - Nami Enters
NEW CHARACTERS:
Nami - A
professional pirate thief
Our two oxymoronically protagonist outlaws, Luffy and Zoro, are drifting across
the sea. They both quip on how each of them is lost, Luffy because he has no
navigation skills and Zoro because he is a wanderer who has lost his home. Zoro
comments that they should find a navigator for the crew, and Luffy adds a cook
and a singer to the list. This makes both Zoro and Luffy hungry. Luffy then sees
a bird and tells Zoro he's going to catch it. He Gomu Gomu Rockets right toward
the bird, then after a few seconds, Zoro notices Luffy hasn't come down yet. It
turns out that the bird is much bigger than Luffy and has him, instead.
Zoro quickly paddles the boat, following Luffy and the bird, and sees three
people ahead of him, seemingly drowning. He tells them to hop on, and they do.
Then they draw swords and tell Zoro to stop his boat, and that he was on Pirate
Buggy's territory.
A few seconds later, the pirates were now beat up and paddling Luffy's boat
(they had no idea that they were dealing with the famous Pirate Hunter Zoro).
Zoro's lost track of Luffy and asks the pirates why they were floating in the
ocean. They said it was because of this girl....
FLASHBACK: The Trickster
The pirates had just finished robbing a ship with a lot of treasure, when they
came across a tiny boat, with someone who fainted. They go up to it, and see
that the person is a girl. She says she is in a ship wreak and offers them money
in a treasure chest if they save her. They climb aboard her ship and ask for the
treasure and she climbs on their ship, and tells them that they can take the
ship as well. As the pirates note that her treasure chest is completely empty,
she sails off with their ship and their treasure. She notes that a storm is
approaching, and that it will sink the pirates' new boat. She planned the whole
thing from the start.
END FLASHBACK
The pirates are angered and talk about how they will kill the girl if they find
her again. They also say that Buggy will be mad if they return without treasure.
Zoro inquires about Buggy, and the pirates tell him that Buggy is the leader of
their crew, and he ate one of the Devil's Fruit.
In a town nearby, there's a large pirate ship with an elephant's head as the
mast. In the streets, a duo of pirates are chasing after a girl (the same girl
who robbed the pirates before) who has stolen a map of Grand Line from them. At
the same time, over the town Luffy is flying with the bird and Buggy's crew
prepares to shoot them down. Luffy and the bird are shot down and land near the
girl and the pirates. The girl then claims that Luffy is her boss and is there
to save her, and runs off. Now the pirates surround Luffy to deal with him
instead. One of the pirates knocks off Luffy's straw hat, and Luffy punches the
guy on the floor, telling him to never mess with his hat.
He beats the rest of the pirates, and the girl on looks from the roof and
comments on how strong he is. Luffy asks who she is, and she reveals herself to
be Nami, a thief who only steals from pirates…

Chapter 9 - Evil Heart Woman
Buggy the Clown - A
mysterious pirate captain who looks like a clown. He has a mysterious Devil’s
Fruit power.
Nami, the professional pirate thief asks her savior, Luffy to join her in
robbing pirates for their treasure, and Luffy naturally declines. She then
inquires about his hat, noting that it must be valuable because Luffy got mad
when the pirates touched it.
Meanwhile, a shadowy figure questions a pirate about Nami stealing his treasure
map (you are brain-dead if you can't tell that this is none other than Buggy the
Clown). He then somehow got confused between the pirate saying that there's
something weird going on, and the pirate saying his nose was weird. Buggy then
seemingly lifts the pirate up without touching him, and has his other crew
members shoot him with a cannon. Buggy then ordered his other lackeys to recover
the map.
In a house in the village (which Nami just squatted in because all of the
villagers have fled because of Buggy), Luffy tells Nami about how he was
separated from Zoro, Nami then gives details about Buggy: He loves to use
cannons, and has destroyed an entire town because a kid made fun of his nose.
Also, he uses some strange magic. (Confirming what the reader has already seen
for himself).
After Luffy offends Nami by calling her a burglar (she's a 'professional pirate
thief'), she tells him that her goal is to collect 100 million beli (One Piece
currency, like zeni in Dragonball) in order to buy a village. She took the Grand
Line Map from Buggy in order to steal treasure from the famous pirates there.
She asks Luffy to join her again as her bodyguard (back on the subject of
Dragonball, Goku and Bulma anyone?). Luffy then points out that she must know
about navigation, and Nami says that she is the best navigator around. This
excites Luffy because he really needs a navigator on his crew, plus he's also
headed for Grand Line. Nami gets excited about this... until he mentions that he
and Zoro or the world's greatest pirates. Nami sharply declines his offer, and
then guesses that Luffy's hat is a treasure map. Luffy tells her that it was a
gift from his best friend whom he promised to return it to when he became Pirate
King. Then Nami screams that the number one thing she hates is pirates (we'll
see why later in the series, hint, hint, wink, wink ^_^), and the number one
thing she loves is money.
Nami notes that Luffy is a poor pirate, and therefore of no use to her, but her
little scheming mind comes up with a plan. She says she will join under one
condition: she wants him to go to see Buggy with her. Luffy nonchalantly agrees,
and Nami plans to double cross him in the back of her mind.
They come across the bar where Buggy is staying, and Nami ties Luffy up against
his will. At the same time the three pirates who were defeated by Luffy confront
Buggy, who is obviously not happy. Just when he's about to murder them, Luffy
(tied up) and Nami arrive. Nami gives Luffy to Buggy and says she is going to
give him his map back. She says she had a fight with her "boss" (Luffy) and
wants to join Buggy's crew. She then soliloquizes that she plans to double cross
him take his treasure.
Zoro and Buggy's 3 pirates arrive at the town, and Zoro tells them to take him
to see Buggy himself…

Chapter 10 - Situation At The Bar
Buggy and his crew celebrate retrieving their map while on top of a town roof
and getting another crew member by drinking and partying. Nami has a drinking
contest and out drinks one of the pirates (she's trying to get them drunk so her
scheme will be easier). Meanwhile, Luffy's trying to bite his way out of a cage
that Buggy presumably threw him into. Nami walks up to him and he asks for food.
She says that if her plan works, she'll get the key to release him from the
cage. Then all of a sudden Buggy comes from behind her and laughs, saying he
feels sorry for Luffy having Nami in his crew (he still believes that boss lie).
He then says he has prepared his punishment and tells his crew to bring the
'Buggy's Special Cannon Ball'.
His crew loads the cannon, and demonstrates on the town. They fire, and the
cannon destroys a whole line of buildings. He then points the cannon at Luffy
and tells Nami to fire it in order to prove her loyalty. She hesitates and then
suggests that they drink instead, but Buggy insists. The pirates are chanting
‘Kill him! Kill him!’
Even though she hates pirates, Nami can’t bring herself to kill one. If she did,
she believes, then she would be nothing less than a pirate. Luffy then comments
on how Nami’s hands are shaking. He says that if she is afraid of killing, then
she shouldn’t have become a pirate. (Luffy may be really dense, but he says some
smart stuff now and then). A pirate then asks Nami if she knows how to fire the
cannon, then begins to light the fuse. Nami then takes out a bo staff and whacks
the pirate in the head. Buggy, of course, is steamed and Nami says that she did
it because she doesn’t want to become a filthy pirate. She says it’s because
pirates murdered the one person she loved (See? Told you. But even more details
will be revealed much later in the series. Hint Hint wink wink ^_^).
Luffy then notices that the fuse is burning, and feverously tries to bite
through the cage. Buggy sends his goons to fight Nami, and Nami’s worried about
the almost totally burnt fuse. She beats on the pirates while Luffy is
ineffectively trying to escape. She then extinguishes the flame with her hands
(burning them), The pirates pounce on her, only to be stopped by two sheathed
blades. (Guess who?)
Zoro then asks Luffy if he’s okay, and quips that he’s been carried by a bird
and is now locked in a cage. The pirates are terrified that Luffy’s friend is
the great Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro. Buggy asks if he’s come for him, and Zoro
responds that he’s retired from pirate hunting. Buggy says that if he kills
Zoro, he will become famous. Zoro then takes his swords and slices Buggy in
half.
But for some reason, his pirates are laughing…
