Uzumaki Naruto

Naruto, who grows up as an orphan, is a Genin (lower level Ninja) of the Hidden Leaf Village. The Nine Tailed Fox Demon's soul was sealed into Naruto's navel at birth. Because of this, Naruto is considered an outcast by the villagers, which also effects the way his peers treat him. Moreover everyone in the village looks at him as if he were the actual Fox Demon and treats him very negatively. Growing up on his own without anyone to confide to causes him to provoke all kinds of mischief to get attention.

Hyperactive and brave, he is the type of character who acts without thinking. Even though at times he demonstrates outstanding fighting potential, he also shows he has a long way to go in terms of training. Determined to one day become the next Hokage of the Leaf Village, his goal is to make everyone acknowledge his strength. After he graduates from the Ninja Academy, he is teamed up with Sasuke and Sakura who are then all trained my Kakashi. He always competes with his main rival Sasuke and also has a crush on Sakura. When not thinking about himself (example: competing with Sasuke to prove he is better) Naruto usually makes sound decisions with the clever way he uses and creates Jutsus and can demonstrate the ability to clearly understand situations around him. It seems Naruto has 2 personalities within him: 1). The hyperactive boy we see everyday and 2). The evil and destructive Demon that was sealed within him long ago. When Naruto is brought to his limit or when his friends are threatened, the seal tends to weaken showing signs of the Nine Tailed Fox Demon. Always good at heart, Naruto is the kind of character most of us can relate to.

Uchiha Sasuke

Sasuke's marks were tops among all the graduates in Naruto's class and he is considered to be the number 1 Genin rookie. He was born from the Uchiha family, which were one of the most powerful and advance ninja clans in Leaf Village. His families' bloodline allows him to use the Sharingan, an ability that helps him to mimic or anticipate another person's Jutsu.

A bit arrogant and always serious, Sasuke is skillfully way ahead, at lease initially, of Naruto and Sakura (although Kakashi noted Naruto has more potential than both Sasuke and Sakura). He cares only about getting stronger and reviving the Uchiha clan which was apparently wiped out by an unknown assassin. When in a real battle, he handles fighting opponents better than both Naruto and Sakura. His personality can be characterized as one-dimensional, but there is more to Sasuke than meets the eye.

Haruno Sakura

Possibly the weakest of the trio, Sakura is only female of her 3 member team. She does have talents that are different that from both Naruto and Sasuke however, which help her shine in certain points of the series. She has a crush on Sasuke and is always self-conscious about the size of her forehead (not that it looks any bigger than anyone else's). At first all she seemed to care about was her crush on Sasuke, but that changes later in the series. Her inner personality often does not portray her exterior behavior.

Hatake Kakashi

Known as "Copy Ninja Sharingan Kakashi," he is a Jounin (upper level Ninja) assigned to train and watch over Sakura, Sasuke and Naruto. He learned many of his techniques from using the Mirror Wheel Eye (using his left eye), in conjunction with his Doujutsu ability (Kakashi's left eye is a Sharingan eye). Because he is not part of the Uchiha family, it seems his left eye may have been attached in a operation as there is a scar over it (and normally Sharingan effects both eyes). Kakashi portrays himself as an easygoing bum-like person, who initially seems weak and is too hard on his students. But under all that is a down to earth Ninja, who is very powerful, fast and skillful. Kakashi is a Ninja who should not be underestimated.

Iruka

Iruka, a Chunin (mid level ninja), was Naruto's first sensei. Much of the same things Naruto goes through Iruka understands because he also grew up without his parents (ironically Iruka's parents were killed by the Nine Tails Fox Demon who's soul was sealed in Naruto). Iruka comes to give the respect and recognition that Naruto yearns for because he recognizes Naruto is a different person than the soul sealed within him.

Konohamaru

Konohamaru (he was named after the village; the Japanese word Konoha roughly translates to "leaf") is the Leaf Village's 3rd Hokage's grandson. People often generalize him as only being the 'grandson of the Hokage' and not as an individual. He's sick of being treated this way and feels no one acknowledges him. Always attacking his grandfather in a effort to become the next Hokage, Konohamaru is looking for respect, not to be overshadowed by his grandfather.  He initially looks up to Naruto who is the only one who treats him differently. Naruto teaches him there are no short cuts to becoming the next Hokage and it will take many years of hard work and dedication to reach the status of top shinobi.

Momochi Zabuza

Known as the "Devil of Hidden mist" because of his involvement in the Hidden Mist's former final Ninja Academy graduation exam. In this exam Zabuza killed over 100 student peers without hesitation or remorse. Because of this incident, the one-on-one system where best friends were forced to kill each other was abolished (Read more on the Hidden Mist Village for more info). A Missing-Nin from the Hidden Mist Village , Zabuza can be described as evil and powerful. After leaving the Mist Village and a failed attempt to take over the Hidden Leaf Village, Zabuza works for scum to earn extra money and travels place to place to avoid Hunter-nins from his former country. All of his Jutsus are water based.

Haku

Haku was found, raised and trained by Zabuza and is also a former Hidden Mist Village ninja. He follows and protects Zabuza and will fight for his cause under any circumstances. Oddly enough Haku has very feminine qualities and as Naruto puts it "is much cuter than Sakura." But that has no bearing on his skills or strength as a fighter. Haku comes from a very advance bloodline, that allows him to use exclusive and powerful abilities such as the Demonic Ice Mirrors.
