Shinomori Aoshi
The leader of the Oniwanban Group who uses the Kempo fighting
style and two blade Kodachis. Because the Kodachi is shorter than Kenshin's
sword, he is faster, and more defensive in battle. Aoshi's character is a bit of
a mystery; he seems like someone who once had integrity and good values, but
somehow lost his way in his way in the role as the leader of the Oniwanban
group.
Aoshi wanted to defeat the Battousai as proof the Oniwanban group is the
strongest. He was unable to defeat Kenshin in their first battle. Not only
did he prove in his mind to be "not the strongest", but he also lost his
comrades that were closest to him (Kanryu killed Aoshi's entire crew with a
gatling gun). Because of this Aoshi grew obsessive with the idea of beating
Kenshin; so obsessed, he abandoned all of his morals and ideals to become a
cunning killer worthy of dethroning the Battousai. After the incident at Kanryu
mansion, Aoshi disappeared into the shadows and resurfaced during the Shishio
arc.

Hannya
Spy of the Oniwanban group, who uses the Kempo style. Elusive ninja like
fighter, who uses hidden gauntlets under his gloves, which can also extend
to claws. He uses the Shin-wan technique,: the stripes on his arms causes
an optical illusion to make things look thicker than they really are thus
causing the opponent to misjudge the distance of the attack.
